Round Mountain capped its Homecoming celebration Friday with a night of hard-fought victories against the visiting Sandy Valley Sidewinders.
The evening began with junior varsity volleyball, where the Knights edged out a 25-23 win in the opening set. Sandy Valley responded with a dominant 25-14 second set, but Round Mountain regrouped to claim the tiebreaker 15-8 and the match, 2-1.
In varsity action, the Lady Knights swept the Sidewinders in three sets, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-17, keeping the energy high in the Round Mountain gym.
The football teams carried that momentum onto the field. After a scoreless first quarter, Sandy Valley senior #47 Honor Jenkins broke through with a rushing touchdown. The Knights answered quickly when sophomore #15 Gunner Olsen powered in for his own score, sending the teams to halftime tied 6-6.
In the third quarter, Olsen struck again, notching his second rushing touchdown to give Round Mountain the lead. The defense held firm the rest of the way, shutting down the Sidewinders and sealing a 12-6 Homecoming win.
The victories across volleyball and football gave Round Mountain plenty to cheer about as Homecoming week came to a close.
