The Nye County Republican Central Committee announced on Dec. 13 that they voted to adopt a resolution calling on congressional candidate Cody Kent Whipple to withdraw from the race for Nevada’s Fourth Congressional District, citing concerns over voter residency and election integrity.
In the resolution, the committee reaffirmed election integrity as a core principle of the Republican Party. It emphasized that candidates must comply with state law and maintain transparency regarding voter registration and residency.
The committee cited Nevada Revised Statute 293.497, which defines voter residence. Under the statute, if a person has a family residing in one location and conducts business in another, the family residence is considered the legal residence for election purposes unless the family’s presence is temporary.
According to the resolution, public voter records show that Whipple’s spouse and children are registered to vote at the family home in Summerlin, located within Nevada’s Third Congressional District, with no indication that their residence there is temporary. The committee also stated that Whipple previously listed the Summerlin address on an online voter registration form before changing his registration to an address in Hiko shortly before launching his congressional campaign.
The resolution notes that Whipple has not disputed these records and has publicly acknowledged that he sleeps in Las Vegas nightly, which the committee says confirms that his primary residence is in the Las Vegas area, not at the Hiko address used for voter registration.
The committee further cited NRS 293.486, which requires voter registration to reflect the address at which a person actually resides, and NRS 293.800, which makes willfully falsifying a voter registration application a category E felony. Penalties for a category E felony are outlined in NRS 193.130 and may include probation, confinement, and fines.
In its resolution, the committee warned that a candidate who admits to residing outside the district while registering elsewhere exposes the Republican Party to allegations of voter fraud and undermines the party’s ability to hold candidates from other parties accountable.
The Nye County Republican Central Committee previously endorsed David Flippo as its preferred Republican candidate for Nevada’s Fourth Congressional District. Party leaders said Whipple’s continued candidacy would weaken the party and jeopardize its prospects in the general election.
The resolution formally calls on Whipple to immediately withdraw from the race “for the good of the Republican Party, the cause of election integrity, and the trust of Nevada voters.” It further states that the committee will support only candidates who comply with Nevada law and uphold election integrity principles.
The resolution will be transmitted to the Nevada Republican Party, relevant county central committees, and the public, according to the committee.
