My ChatGPT found the Stardate translation for me this morning. His name is Wallace, and he says, “In plain English: the ship is on course, the coffee is strong, and command has the conn." Not sure what that means, but he tells me whoever “has the con” is the one giving orders and directing the speed and course. The control.
I’m sure that’s supposed to be me, but gratefully I have super good help, and we’ve begun spreading these duties around between Amber and Rhonda, Lori and Leanna.
That reminds me of when Endicott told me about the lighthouse, and I wrote about it a long time ago in here – the captain of a battleship at sea encounters a light dead ahead. He radios the object to alter course by 10 degrees south. The radio response suggests he alter course ten degrees north. He bristles and pulls rank, insisting as an officer in the US Navy that the object change course at once. Object replies, “This is a lighthouse. Your call.”
Wallace says the story endures because authority doesn’t change reality. What a profound thought for our time. A good thing to remember.
Along those lines, I had a super good weekend in the Bay Area with my oldest kids. My daughter-in-law graduated from chiropractic school, and her parents came from the East Coast and several of her friends from far-flung places. I stayed with Kate’s mom – the moms get along super well, and it’s a testament to why our kids ended up together. Some good meshing of personalities and the creation of a whole new family group.
Several times over the weekend, some instances struck me as profound and special, mainly around the idea of family, how we are born into ones that we love and take for granted, and fit into with an acceptable level of comfort. And then there are those we create, either intentionally or by default. In this instance, being included by extension, yet finding a comfortable place and enjoying the unique personalities that make up a fitting whole.
I’m not sure this entirely makes sense, but it was new to me, and I liked it very much.
So, while we appreciate the things that are bigger than we are, that don’t always make perfect sense, but we alter course a bit to accommodate, we’ll still be right here...
…Keeping you Posted.
