On Saturday, August 16, from 8 p.m. to midnight, Lahontan State Recreation Area will host the
first-ever Cosmos in the Desert Dark Skies Festival at Beach 3 in Silver Springs, Nevada.
After a delay in April, the Nevada Division of State Parks and Division of Outdoor Recreation
are excited to welcome the public back for this free, family-friendly nighttime event. Set under
one of Nevada’s clearest night skies, visitors can enjoy guided stargazing, fun booths, and hands-
on activities.
Highlights include telescope viewing with local astronomy clubs, a night sky virtual reality
experience, storytelling, wildlife walks, and an astrophotography demo. There will also be food
and drinks from a local truck, plus giveaways while supplies last.
To protect the view of the stars, only red lights are allowed near Beach 3, flashlight conversion
help will be available at check-in. Entry is $5 for Nevada residents and $10 for others.
Camping is allowed in most areas, except Beach 3. Visit parks.nv.gov/events for more
information and details.
