The office of Governor Joe Lombardo last week issued a fact sheet listing resources available for
Nevada residents who are in need of food, particularly those who are impacted by the federal
shutdown, including SNAP recipients and federal employees.
Anyone in need of food can find a food distribution location through the Food Bank of Northern
Nevada at fbnn.org. The food banks will be conducting self-reporting of SNAP recipients,
federal employees, etc. for tracking purposes.
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada can provide direct food distribution to those who need food
delivered through their mobile distribution networks or in partnership with local agencies. The
Food Bank of Northern Nevada has 145 partner agencies and more than 40-school based pantries
across 13 counties in Nevada and facilitates more than 40 mobile food distributions.
The Nevada National Guard is being activated to support food distribution infrastructure,
including receiving of food, boxing food and transporting food from warehouses to food
distribution sites.
The Governor’s says the State anticipates that the initial $38 million being allocated will provide
critical support for Nevada families through November but the State will continue to seek
sustainable funding solutions as the federal shutdown continues.
