Rural DMV offices move to appointment-only service

Rural DMV offices move to appointment-only service

The Rotary Club of Fernley will serve the 14th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the Wigwam from 1–3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

In addition, they will make home deliveries from 1–2:30 p.m. for those who sign up to receive a dinner.

The event is organized entirely by volunteers, and although the venue will be the Wigwam, the dinner and desserts are all donated and prepared by volunteers. The dinner is open to all members of the community, regardless of income.

Dinners will also be delivered to home-bound residents who request it. Deliveries can be arranged by calling Roy Edgington at (775) 790-5655 or William Shattuck at (775) 671-7722.

Volunteers are needed to help prepare meals, package them for delivery, and deliver the meals. It is preferred that meals be delivered by teams of two.

Volunteers will help cook turkeys and side dishes, seat patrons as they arrive at the Wigwam, help serve meals, and assist with cleanup afterward. The Wigwam facility will be open only for the Thanksgiving dinner; its regular menu will not be available.

The Rotary Club is seeking donations of canned goods, other side dishes, pies, and desserts. The club is also requesting monetary donations to help pay for supplies and to cover the additional cost of Wigwam staff assisting with this year’s event.

“We want to thank Victor (Serna) and his staff at the Wigwam for stepping up,” Edgington said.

To arrange a donation or volunteer, contact Roy at (775) 790-5655 or William at (775) 671-7722.
