On March 11, the Ozmen Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Nevada, Reno will host a symposium focused on family business ownership and succession planning. The event, titled “Passing the Torch: Ownership & Control,” will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Nevada Museum of Art. Organized through the center’s Family Business Program, the symposium is intended to help family-run companies prepare for leadership transitions and long-term management decisions.

The program is intended to give business leaders practical guidance as they plan for changes in ownership and leadership. Sessions will explore topics such as succession planning, governance structures, and ways to maintain stability and continuity as businesses transition to the next generation.

The symposium will include presentations from industry professionals on strategies for transferring ownership, as well as a panel of family business leaders who will share their experiences navigating succession and long-term planning. Organizers will also host a discussion examining economic conditions expected to impact privately held and family-owned businesses in the coming years.

Participants will also have the opportunity to meet new people and connect with peers who understand the unique challenges of family enterprise.

“This event reflects the heart of the Ozmen Center’s Family Business Program: building a strong, connected community of family business leaders who learn from one another,” stated the program’s co-chair, Chris Yount. “Family businesses have been the backbone of our region’s economy, and we are here to prepare them for what’s next.”
