The Nevada Department of Education announced the return of the DonorsChoose grant Program on Jan. 7. The program provides $15 million in funding to support public school educators in funding classroom projects across the state. Eligible Nevada public school educators may now receive up to $500 for classroom materials through DonorsChoose, a nonprofit crowdfunding platform. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We know that educators pay for classroom supplies out of their own pockets to provide hands-on learning opportunities for their students,” said Dr. Victor Wakefield, Nevada’s superintendent of public instruction. “I am grateful for Governor Lombardo and the Legislature providing additional funding to continue the DonorsChoose grant program, alleviating some of the financial burden for hardworking educators across our state.”

Senator Marilyn Dondero Loop, who sponsored Senate Bill 90, emphasized the importance of classroom resources. “Ensuring our educators and staff across Nevada have the resources they need to support their students is essential,” she said.

The current grant program is made possible by the success of a previous partnership between DonorsChoose and the Nevada Department of Education. As part of the partnership, DonorsChoose will ensure that all instructional materials requests align with the Nevada Academic Content Standards.

Funding for the program comes from Senate Bill 90, which was passed by the Nevada Legislature during the 2025 session and signed into law by Gov. Joe Lombardo. The legislation allocates $7.5 million per fiscal year for 2025–2027, for a total of $15 million.

Eligible applicants include full-time Nevada public school educators working with students in preschool through 12th grade who spend at least half of their time directly educating or counseling students. Approved projects are expected to be funded within one week of posting.

More information on creating a Donors Choose project is available on the organization’s project page.
